New release on BBC World: Building for Islam

A four-part series of documentaries, which focus on the best of the finalists of the 2007 Aga Khan Award for Architecture.

What links Malaysia’s Petronas towers with shelters for earthquake victims in Iran? Or restored parts of the old city of Jerusalem with a brand new traders market in West Africa? The answer is that they have all been winners of the world’s richest architectural prize, the coveted half million-dollar Aga Khan Award for Architecture.
Winners are selected from buildings and structures of contemporary and traditional design to social housing, community improvement and development to restoration, reuse and area conservation, as well as landscape design and buildings that improve the environment.

In this series, the viewer is given a unique behind the scenes insight into selected projects from conception to construction, to present day use.
