A Sporting Chance (debate) - 1x42’ - English
December 2005

The second International Conference on Sport and Development took place in Magglingen (Switzerland) in December 2005.
On that occasion, we staged a debate, led by Zeinab Badawi, one of the BBC’s most experienced presenters, which included a panel of some of the most prominent and influential figures in sport. Adolf Ogi (special adviser on sport for development and peace to UN Secretary General Kofi Anan), Boris Becker (three times Wimbledon Champion), Walter Fust (Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Co-operation), Mary Harvey (Olympic Gold Women’s Footballer and FIFA Director of Development) and several others, participated in a fast-paced discussion covering a broad range of subjects, including sport’s possible contribution to world peace and the issue of gender equality in sport.

Interspersed with footage from around the world, including a football match between a joint Israeli and Palestinian team against Barcelona FC, and footage filmed in Uganda and in Honduras, the debate is a unique event encapsulating the sporting spirit of the world.
