Angola… Waiting - 1x30’ - English
May 2003

Angola’s long civil war ended in February 2002 with a ceasefire between the ruling MPLA party and the opposition, UNITA. Following the ceasefire, UNITA troops have been sent back to their home regions. But the war had lasted almost thirty years, and most of these soldiers were born a long way from their land of origin, and have no connection to it. Not only this, but there is no work in Angola, half the population is unemployed, and qualified professionals such as doctors, teachers and engineers have been forced to return to remote villages which have little to offer.
In forcing these people to return to their land of origin, the government has ignored the promises it made on the rehabilitation of the losing forces into Angolan society.
