Maasai Land: Restricted Area - 1x52’ - English
September 2005

The Maasai have travelled the centuries behind their cattle, living off the milk, blood and meat of their cows. They were known as the lords of East Africa. Renowned warriors and lion hunters, they have become the symbol of tourism in Kenya. But there is another side to the picture postcard. Today the Maasai culture, closely entwined with pastoralism is disappearing. This film travels 3,000 kms across Kenya to witness the death throes of traditional Maasai society. For Kenny Matampash, the main character of the film, the decline of the Maasai began with the arrival of British settlers in Kenya in the early 19th century.
