The World Debate - The Green Economoy: Fad or Fact?
A UN environmental meeting in Bali was the backdrop to our latest BBC World Debate. A top level Panel, who included Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Wangari Maathai, fielded questions from the audience and BBC World News viewers on whether hesitant moves towards putting the global economy on a sustainable footing could make up for the disappointment of the climate talks at Copenhagen.
The Panellists were bullish but after a section of a 30 year old BBC debate was shown at the end with a young Professor Maathai summing up, the Kenyan admitted that so little progress had been made on safeguarding the environment that she would have to say much the same in 2010.
